Ever wanted to experience what it’s like to work at the anvil? Our hands-on blacksmithing courses give you the chance to get stuck in, work with fire and steel, and create your own piece using traditional forging techniques.
No previous blacksmithing experience is needed. Whether you're picking up a hammer for the first time or you're already an experienced smith looking to develop your skills, you'll be guided through the process step by step.
Our workshops have been recognised by Leeds List as one of Leeds’ “must-try” craft workshops — but the real experience begins when you step into the forge yourself.
More than a course — an experience
From the first strike of the hammer to the final finishing touches, you'll be involved in every stage of creating your piece. You'll learn practical skills, develop your confidence at the anvil and discover the satisfaction of making something with your own hands.
Depending on the course, you can learn bladesmithing and knife making, axe making, swordsmithing and pattern welding (Damascus steel). Our courses focus on hands-on forging, with plenty of time spent working with hammer and anvil, as well as learning essential techniques such as grinding and heat treatment.
Learn with expert guidance
Our classes are deliberately small, allowing for quality teaching and plenty of individual attention. You'll be guided through each stage of the process, with one-to-one tuition available throughout the day.
We offer one-day, three-day and five-day courses, as well as one-to-one tuition and tailored courses for individuals and private groups.
Who are the courses for?
Our courses are suitable for beginners and experienced smiths alike. You don't need to arrive knowing how to forge — we'll teach you the techniques and help you build your skills as you go.
Courses are generally for ages 18+. Younger participants may be able to attend when accompanied by a parent or guardian, and shorter sessions can also be arranged. If you have a specific requirement, just get in touch.
